can I use wordpress as cms and multi-user blogging?

xelty . asked:

I have designed my website but not constructed yet. I was advised to use wordpress as I mentioned “blog” as part of my website. I don’t want to blog myself. I want people to create their own blogs on my website (because it is very much subject related), and also other people can leave comments on each others’ blogs.
Can wordpress do this?
If yes, is there a limit to the number of people creating blogs?
If not, can you suggest another opensource, php based tool?

hmmm, more than one question. Tough…

Yes, Wordpress is multi-user capable.

how many users? - “thousands”

review:

Alternatives: Joomla, Mambo….

Hope that’s good for you….

you need wpmu…it is the same wordpress that powers wordpress.com. if you are good with php it will be easy for you..(you have to write your own code for a lot of things, including a front page!).

i am not an expert with php though, so I used Drupal and am pretty content with the results. I had no idea how to make a website…so its pretty user friendly if you’re willing to learn it. You can visit my site at to see what I did with it. It is a new site, but I welcome you to come create a blog on if you’d like - could be a good way to earn some exposure once you get your site going.

Nice to hear from you about Drupal that I began to use for my CMS site. However the theme of my site is not yet good to show,so I have not yet decided to keep using this Drupal in long future. So I want to see your site made by Drupal and want to evaluate a theme of Drupal. Please tell here your URL.
Now WP is very good for me to show others my theme surface like shown below about URL.
