Wordpress: Installed, not published - yet. Help?

Prophecy asked:

I’ve installed Wordpress on my domain (via Fantastico script library). I can access the control panel and modify posts - but it’s not publishing on the home page!

When I bought hosting space, the host had this “this website is hosted here” page (http://mydomain.com/index.html) so I modified the index.html to “Coming soon.”

Now I want wordpress as a content management system and presentation tool - like at http://www.futureofcommunities.com.

1. Do I have to make some change to get Wordpress to publish at mydomain.com?
2. How do I add other custom pages such as “details,” “mission/vision,” “team?”

In the control panel:

1. Go to “Options” then “General” - are the URLs set up correctly for your site? On the server, is the index.php file (and the other files it needs) in the correct directory for the site’s main page?

For me, the main page is
which loads
$HOME/public_html/blog/index.php

And the admin page is
which loads
$HOME/public_html/blog/wp-admin/index.php

2. Go to “Manage” then “Pages” and click on “Create New Page”. These pages will show up on your site in a list by default, and you can move them somewhere else on the page by editing the template.
