wordpress: if this file were writable then you could edit it?
Rachel asked:
I’m using wordpress. Whenever I go to edit a theme, at the bottom it says, “if this file were writable then you could edit it”. I have read every help topic on the wordpress forums and on other websites. I have changed the permissions to every possibility. Still doesn’t work! Help!

Do you have your own domain?
Are you using ftp? You can edit the theme files and then overwrite them via ftp
HI,
Just right click the file you are working on and UN-set the read only flag. This will help you.
The files should be set to permissions: 666
That is Read & Write for everyone, but not Execute.
Your host might not allow changing permissions though. So if you have FTP access, you should use that instead. Just make sure you use a plain text editor to modify the files.
