My quest for finding the best bloggers in the world

I had a dream: to gather together some of the best blogging minds in the world…

and grill them on how they get massive traffic to their blog.

If you think this is B.S., just read further.

If you had the incredible chance to interview some of today’s top bloggers, folks like Darren Rowse, Yaro Starak, Daniel Scocco, chris Garett and Jack Humphrey just to name a few, and grill them for everything you wanted to know about “Blog traffic”, what would you ask them?

Guess what? I had this opportunity. And I’ve asked these players some of the most intriguing and hard-to-answer questions…

1. If you have to bring instant visitors to your blog in the next 30 minutes, what steps will you follow?

2. Most bloggers like to get passive traffic… What are the one time actions we can do which will keep on bringing traffic without any effort after that?

3. What’s your most effective traffic generating strategy which works every time for you and gives the best return in terms of traffic regarding to your time spent?

4. What are your top 3 traffic sources and how exactly do you attract traffic from each of those sources?

5. Let’s say you lose your name, contacts and everything. You have to start from scratch as a “nobody”. What will you do then for the next 30 days so that your blog will start getting 1000 unique visitors each and every day?

And a lot more. They are in no particular order!

The most shocking part is that all these blogging “wizards” agreed to get part in my project and answered my “unfair” questions.

Long story short.

I’ve compiled all their pearls of wisdom in a PDF interview-style report that you can take it to the bank.

This guide is like an ATM cash machine. You can print money on demand, legally and ethically.

The best part is this: I’ll make a sample copy available the day after tomorrow - for your eyes only!

Stay tuned!

Why 96% of All Bloggers Fail

Have you ever wondered what makes some of the top bloggers so successful?

Why some bloggers (just a few) get massive traffic to their blog while the majority are still dreaming about their first visitor?

They did not get “lucky”

They don’t have two brains

The difference is this:

They consistently bring hordes of visitos and comments to their blog each and every day.

But they haven’t mastered each and every traffic getting method under the sun!

Just think about this - there are so many tricks and tactics to learn that it will take forever to master all of them.

There is blog commenting, article marketing, forum posting, facebook, twitter, squidoo, PPC, banner exchange, Stumbleupon, and so on.

Do you really think you have the time to learn all this? And even so, what guarantees you’ll have the time to apply each and
every tactic on a regular basis - which is key to getting massive traffic…

Now back to the main question - what makes the pro bloggers successful?

What they know that you don’t?

The answer is that they have mastered just a few traffic-getting methods.

And the most shocking part is this:

They spend less time and make more *money than the rest of the bloggers out there.

Isn’t this incredible?

Work less and get paid even more.

HERE’S WHY THIS WORKS:

Because the pro bloggers know what works and stick to it.

Yes, they’re focusing on the activity which makes the most impact in their blog’s traffic.

In upcoming posts I’ll introduce you to some of the most popular and most successful bloggers in the world.

Hint - they know how to turn one visit into hundreds.

Stay tuned. You have seen nothing yet.

Important Message for Users of the Smart Update Pinger

If you have been using Wordpress for a while, you may be using a plugin called the Smart Update Pinger. Developed to save your blog from being banned because of unnecessary multiple pings, this plugin has been very useful, particularly for those who really want to get their blog out there.

I don’t want to get too technical, but basically, one thing that makes a blog very powerful is that it sends out a “ping” or a notice to search engines and blog directories saying “hey, there’s something new on my blog.” This can be useful, since you want your blog to be found when people use these search engines.

The drawback to this, is that sometimes your blog can send out too many pings. These same search engines and blog directories don’t want that, and consider it a form of spamming. And if you spam them enough times, you could get banned from these services; if you do, it means fewer people are able to search for your blog, and you don’t reach as wide an audience as you want to reach.

The Smart Update Pinger basically minimizes the number of pings your blog sends out, so that you don’t get banned. Simply put, it does this by only letting you send out pings when you really need to. And if you don’t get banned from these services, you’re able to reach as many people as you can.

It’s no surprise then that this plugin has become very popular, and very much so for serious bloggers.

However, It May No Longer Be Working for You!

There is a problem for users of this plugin, and you may not even be aware of it, specially if you have been using this plugin for a long time. As the developer of the Smart Update Pinger puts it:

Smart Update Pinger no longer updated

As you can see, he lists the Smart Update Pinger plugin as something he no longer updates. He does state, though, that if you use Wordpress 1.5 or 2.0, you should be fine, and Smart Update Pinger should still be working fine for you. Here’s another image taken from the developer’s site, showing his last update of the Smart Update Pinger:

smartupdate04.gif

As you can see, he stopped development for the plugin for use with Wordpress 2.0. You can check out exactly what the developer says on his site, but the important basic information that you need to know is that Smart Update Pinger is obsolete for anyone who uses Wordpress 2.1 and above.

So, you’re a user of Smart Update Pinger, and you’re using Wordpress 2.1 or above. What do you do now? The developer’s notice means that Smart Update Pinger may no longer be working as it was intended to work. At the very least, this plugin is now wasting space on your server.

One of the most important and possibly catastrophic differences is that instead of sending a single ping to the search services I mentioned earlier, Smart Update Pinger actually now causes two pings to be sent. This could be very bad news for you, and, without you even realizing it, you could have already been banned from these very important services.

You may be asking yourself, “what do I do now?” The reason you started using Smart Update Pinger, is now the very reason why you should stop using it, but you still have a need to control the number of pings you send out.

Here’s Something You Can Use:

Thankfully, there is an option available to users of Wordpress 2.1 and above.

The MaxBlogPress Ping Optimizer is a plugin inspired by the Smart Update Pinger, and does exactly what the previous plugin did, and more. More importantly, the MaxBlogPress Ping Optimizer has been updated for use with the latest versions of wordpress, so you can be sure that it’s doing the work of keeping your blog from being banned by search engines and directories. So, if you’re using wordpress 2.1 and above, you can, and should, switch over to the MaxBlogPress Ping Optimizer, so that you can maximize the use of your blog.

Very quickly, what the MaxBlogPress Ping Optimizer does is that it keeps your blog from sending out pings when you update posts, which could lead to your blog sending the number of pings that search engines and blog directories consider as spam. At the same time, it does allow your blog to send out pings when you make a new post, which is when you want to tell those same services that there is something new on your blog.

And most importantly, by using the MaxBlogPress Ping Optimizer over the Smart Update Pinger, you avoid sending the double ping which could block your blog. This will keep your blog from being banned, and will let you have access to the large audience waiting to search for your blog on the world wide web.

So, again, if you are currently using Wordpress 2.1 and above, and you’re still using the Smart Update Pinger, do switch to using the MaxBlogPress Ping Optimizer.

The Naked Truth about Blogging Success and Failure

Let’s face it. The web is simply overflowing with information on how to blog, make a “successful” career in blogging, get “tons” of traffic, and earn “effortlessly” by monetizing your blog. The amount of information is staggering that you can spend your entire life trying to learn all these things and not do anything else.

But despite this easy-to-access wealth of information, you’d wonder: Why is it that most bloggers fail? Why can’t they attract readers to their blog? Why doesn’t anyone post comments? Why do only a handful of people bother to subscribe to their RSS feed?

Here’s the plain truth: Not every piece of information you can get is accurate and works for all bloggers. Even if it sounds good or wise, more often than not, most bloggers don’t know how to apply them to their own advantage.

Sounds great, but will it work?

You’ll also find a lot of good ideas scattered all over the web. But it’s quite tricky. Remember that some ideas may appear to work great in theory but don’t work at all in real life. Those ideas may sound brilliant, but that’s what they may just be – “good ideas” or theory that add nothing to your bottomline.

Take MLM (multilevel marketing) as an example. The concept is, in fact, brilliant and it’s easy to become convinced that you can get rich by the effort of hundreds of downlines that you can recruit. But ask yourself: Do you know anyone who became rich via MLM? (There are rare successes but most are failures.)

And here’s another astounding, often overlooked truth…

Your mentors can’t give you everything

It’s good to have mentors to teach us things, especially when we’re only starting out. But before we hang on to every word they say and forget everything else, it’s important to realize that they can’t possibly have experienced everything about the subject they’re teaching.

There’s only so much knowledge that they can absorb within their daily 24-hour life. Chances are, they also miss out on some important information. Even if you have 2 or 3 mentors, what they don’t learn, they can’t teach you, so there’s still plenty of stuff you can learn on your own.

Also, keep in mind that your situation and those of the blogging experts may be similar, but cannot be exactly the same . What tactic may work for the blogging expert with enormous success may not apply to you and can bring you miserable failure instead.

Okay, you ask, if those things don’t guarantee success, where do I get reliable information that will truly work for ME in MY situation?

Results, not Theories

I believe in results, not in ideas or theories. It’s important that an idea, however good it may seem, has already been tested and has delivered good results. That’s what I call a solid actionable information that produces real results.

But who’s willing to spend all his or her time to try out all the wonderful-sounding ideas, then fail hundreds of times, just to uncover the real golden nuggets of strategy that actually work? Unfortunately, as of today, I know of no such person, and no one wants to be a guinea pig and live through numerous heartbreaking failures.

But wait…we can have much better answer than that. Fortunately, I know a terrific source of boundless experience and knowledge, yet untapped by any other platform.

Updated Ninja Affiliate version 1.7 now even better

We’re continually improving MaxBlogPress Ninja Affiliate, and this time around, we’ve come up with a version that has greater capabilities for letting you manage your affiliate marketing campaigns with as little effort as possible.

In the previous version, we’ve added several effort-saving features such as a search option, the ability to mass edit, disable or delete links, and a custom field for excluding Ninja links per post. With our latest Ninja Affiliate version 1.7.1, you’ll have even more control by the addition of 3 new features that expand on these functionalities.

To access them, simply log on to your WordPress dashboard, go to Manage > then go to the MBP Ninja Affiliate control panel:naff17-cp-img3a.png

Now if you’re an existing user, you’ll be quick to notice these new options on the Control Panel. Among them is the new Backup & Restore link which you’ll see immediately. The other 2 new features can be found under the Keywords to Ninja Links Options.

naff17-cp-img3b.png

We’ll now discuss the functions and benefits of each feature, beginning with those that give you better control over Ninja Affiliate’s powerful ability to automatically convert keywords into links.

New feature #1: Exclude pages from automatically converting keywords into links

For one reason or another, you may not want to put affiliate links on your WordPress pages, such as your About and Contact Me pages. In the past version update, an option to disable automatic keywords-to-links conversion for individual posts or pages was added to the write post editor. This time, we simplify this task even more that all you need to do is to check a box to make Ninja Affiliate exclude all those pages.

To enable this feature, go to Keywords to Ninja Links Options. On the next page, you’ll see two new checkboxes. The first one is for the global option for excluding automatic linking on pages:

naff-knlo-f1img2.png

naff-knlo-f1img11.png

New feature #2: Exclude a whole category from converting keywords into links

The second checkbox is for excluding categories. This is a great time-saving feature that lets you choose which kinds of posts not to insert affiliate links in, all in just a single mouse click.

An example are paid reviews where you are often not allowed to put in any affiliate links. Let’s say you have a ‘Paid Reviews’ category for these kinds of posts. So instead of excluding your paid review posts one by one, a time-consuming effort especially if you already have dozens of posts, our updated Ninja Affiliate version 1.7.1 lets you mass-exclude those posts by letting you exclude the ‘Paid Reviews’ category. Anything you label with this category will not have automatic linking.

To do this, go to Keywords to Ninja Links Options > look for the Exclude Selected Categories checkbox > and click on Save Options:

naff-knlo-img41.png

New feature #3: Ninja Affiliate Tables Backup and Restore

Another new feature that you’d surely appreciate is an option to backup and restore your Ninja Affiliate database. It’s always wise to back up your work, and the restore feature comes a lot in handy in case your server breaks down or something else untoward happens. Version 1.7 makes it even easier to protect all your hard work.

To access this feature,  go back to the MBP Ninja Affiliate control panel > then click on Backup & Restore. As mentioned, this wasn’t present in the previous version, so if you’ve used this plugin before, this feature is hard to miss.

Ninja Affiliate version 1.7 backup & restore screenshot

Clicking on the link above will take you to the page below:

Ninja Affiliate version 1.7 backup & restore screenshot 2

The Backup option lets you download a copy of your Ninja Affiliate database to your local drive. Should you lose your current database or want to replace it, the Restore function lets you upload that backup copy so you need not start from scratch.

Managing and tracking your affiliate marketing campaigns can’t get any easier than this!

Do Or Die: Track and Manage Your Affiliate Links

If you’re familiar with the 80/20 principle, you’ll understand that about 80% of your income comes from just 20% of your effort. This means that only 20% of the things you do directly effect the amount of money you make from your blog. It may be different from person to person, but the general rule of thumb applies.

So what about the 80% of the things that you do that are a complete waste of your time? A few I can think of include:

  • constantly changing and tweaking your WordPress theme
  • checking your web stats and affiliate sales 3-5 times a day
  • reading way too many blogs instead of writing for your own
  • unnecessary trouble shooting and “fire fighting”

Speaking of “fire fighting”, let me tell you a true story. You’ll see why I wasted 80% of my time and got nothing out of it. Hint: you may be doing the same thing.

When I started making money online with my first affiliate program, I copied all the affiliate links and used them directly on my website. It was pretty straightforward at first, but eventually my site grew to more than 150 pages – that meant I had at least 150 “naked” affiliate links all over the place.

For a while, it didn’t matter. I was making money, the world was great. My 20% did the job.

Then without warning one day, the advertiser moved its entire program from Commission Junction to Link Share. Everything changed in the blink of an eye. Now I had more than 150 dead affiliate links scattered all over the place, and the race to save my income was on.

Every passing minute meant a loss of affiliate sales. It took me over 7 days to find, replace and validate all the affiliate links on my site. Even then, I could not do anything about the links I had posted in forums, article directories and social bookmarking sites.

I was spending 80% of my time “fire fighting” – trying to put out the fire caused by my own oversight not too long ago.

Think about it; if you’re currently promoting any affiliate program using the naked affiliate link instead of a link management system like Ninja Affiliate, what would you do if:

  • You’ve aggressively promoted an affiliate link in forums and blogs, only to have the product you’re promoting discontinued or changed..
  • You’ve naively used naked affiliate links inside most of your blog posts, only to have the product owner announce two weeks down the road that he’s migrating to a new affiliate software and that you have to update all your links ASAP in order to continue getting commissions..
  • You’ve scattered links all over the place only to find the product doesn’t convert. You’ve found a better replacement but who’s going to do the dirty job of updating al the links?

As the Russians say, “Measure Seven Times, Cut Once”. Plan to do things the smart way and you’ll never have to waste your time in the future correcting mistakes that could have been avoided in the first place.

Using Ninja Affiliate, you should only use a “redirect link” that forwards traffic to your actual affiliate link. Here’s how easy it is to do:

ninja-links

  • Step 1: Enter the a “Link Name” for your reference
  • Step 2: Enter the actual affiliate link
  • Step 3: Create a Ninja Link or redirect link
  • Step 4: Assign it to a group (if you have many links)

Now when you promote your links on your blog or in forums, use only the Ninja Link. Let all traffic flow through your Ninja Link and resolve (redirect) to your actual affiliate link. Besides making your links look professional, you’re also doing things the smart way.

One day you get an email from a marketer (me maybe?) telling you that guess what, the entire affiliate program had been moved from Clickbank to PayDotCom. All you have to do is replace one affiliate link in your Ninja Affiliate admin panel – not hundreds of scattered links.

This is why Ninja Affiliate is getting rave reviews from professional bloggers and affiliate marketers – because it works like magic. If you haven’t got yourself a copy of Ninja Affiliate, you should.

A lot of us spend 80% of our time doing nonsense tasks that lead to only 20% of our income.Do it right the first time and you too can live the 80/20 principle, make more money, and live a better life.

Are You Monetizing Your RSS Feeds?

image I first heard about “RSS” back in 2005, with all the hype about how RSS (Real Simple Syndication) feeds are the future of online marketing. I admit I had no idea what it was and bought into the hype as well, figuring what was good for the masses was good for me. Fast forward a few years, and although I use RSS feeds on my main blogs and other sites, the truth about “making money” with RSS feeds has come one full circle.

The truth is simple. Let me lay it down for you:

  1. Readers love RSS for it allows them easy access to your content via “feed readers”, mobile devices and even directly from their Firefox browsers.

  2. RSS feeds eats blog traffic as once someone is comfortable reading your blog content via RSS, there’s no real reason for them to visit your blog.

  3. RSS feeds eat potential revenue since not all blog advertising programs work for feeds, and if your readers are accessing your content via RSS will mostly see an ad-free version of your blog. Good for them, not too good for you.

  4. Content thieves love RSS too, as they can easily grab your entire blog content and post it to their spam blogs. Your unique content is duplicated while they pocket all the revenue from “borrowing” your content.

While RSS is a great tool for blogging, it’s notoriously hard to monetize.  As most CPM / CPC ads depend on page impressions or clicks, they are largely limited to your blog pages and not your RSS feeds. Because of the ad-free content feeds, you’re leaving lots of money on the table.

I’m not suggesting that your “block” your RSS feeds in any way because if you care about your reader’s experience, you have to give them what they want. Forcing them to visit your blog pages instead of accessing your RSS feeds can alienate a vast majority of readers.

On the other hand, affiliate marketing is perfectly suited to RSS feeds, since any link in your actual blog post will also appear as links in your RSS feeds. Therefore if you write a good post and promote an affiliate product, response from your RSS readers are likely to be just as effective (if not more effective) as readers finding your blog posts via search engines.

Plus, anyone stealing your content now becomes your “friend” of sorts because your syndicated and duplicated feeds usually contain your affiliate link. Thieves are too lazy to remove them, so you benefit from your stolen content as well. It’s more than just a consolation – it’s sweet revenge as a sure-fire way to get more affiliate sales.

MBP Ninja Affiliate allows you to automatically convert keywords in your content to affiliate links that you can cloak, track and manage from one central location.

This takes affiliate marketing via RSS feeds one step further by automating the entire process. That leaves you with total freedom to write great content while knowing that your specified keywords will be automatically converted to keywords, making money for you for months or even years to come.

ninja-aff

All you have to do is enter an affiliate link, give it a name and redirect URL, then click on “Convert Keywords to Ninja Links”. Then, you specify your keywords and everything else happens automatically. The keyword-to-link conversion happens for both previous and future blog content. If your blog already has a few thousand pages, this is incredibly powerful. Plus the fact that you can change keywords and affiliate links any time you want without any hassle makes it any affiliate blogger’s dream weapon.

Remember that in-content hyperlinks work far better than any contextual ad program out there. Readers see in-content links (even if they are affiliate links) as related content and are more likely to click on it. Just make sure you’re tracking everything so you’re never in the dark about which affiliate programs are working and which ones to dump.

Great for the reader, and great for you. I love win-win situations, don’t you?
