One lesser Known Tip that increased my Traffic by 150%

I started blogging in the beginning of the year 2008. My first blog was on a very specific niche in the careers market. Traffic was not too much and I kept struggling to get a few visitors to my blog. I read a hundred different books on getting traffic by commenting on other blogs, participating in discussions in various forums, article marketing etc. Nothing seemed to be working. Almost all ideas to get traffic seemed to fail. It was not that I did not see an increase in traffic. There was for sure an increase, but it was just a trickle. It was not enough for my blog.

In my experimenting at Internet Marketing, I was making some good money with my mini-sites and other affiliate marketing businesses, but I was a failure at blogging.

I started a second blog towards the end of 2008 focused in the Internet Marketing niche. This blog was able to attract some traffic to it, primarily because of the topic it was covering. As my quest to increase traffic to my blogs widened I stumbled upon things like Guest Posting. It worked. Guest posting got me considerable amounts of traffic. But that did not increase my traffic by 150%.

How I increased my traffic by 150% -

Guest posting had worked for me. Nothing else worked as much as Guest Posting did. My traffic increased considerably.

As I was guest posting, I noticed something special. There was something that I was doing after every guest post. As soon as my guest post got published, I wrote a linked article on the same topic that I had written the guest post on, at my blog. I knew that people would click on my links in my author bio at the guest post and come to my blog. I wanted to give them more information on whatever they were reading so that I can establish credibility. While I published this post on my blog, I also made a reference to the guest post that I had written.

Unknowingly I was promoting some other blog in an attempt to promote my own guest post.

This struck me.

This meant that other guest bloggers, who wrote posts for various blogs would also be working on promoting their guest posts and thus the blog.

My Tip to increase traffic – Invite Guest Posts

This is where I decided that I would invite guest posts on my blog. Guest posts gave me fresh content with a newer perspective from a new author. My readers enjoyed this change and referred more people to my blog. At the same time, the guest bloggers also promoted the posts that they had written at my blog. That gave me a stream of traffic which just did not die until about a month. My articles were able to retain at least a few of these new readers who became my subscribers.

A few of these new readers became guest bloggers at my blog again. I kept supplementing this traffic with newer posts from guest bloggers and it worked just like geometric progression.

The cumulative effect of this saw my blog traffic grow by 150% in a matter of 35 days.

You can start by adding a “write-for-us” page at your blog. Make the links, “Do-Follow” to get better results. Join forums like “My Blog Guest” in order to get guest bloggers.

There could be another 1000 ways of getting guest bloggers to post at your blog. Pick one or, a combination of a few of them and increase the traffic to you blog.

    Awesome Dilip

Your are right, Guest posting is and I think will be an big concept for some time coming, because people understand now that if you want to get up that ladder faster and safer.

Then you must piggy back off someones else traffic, and guest posting on other people blogs and people exchanging the favor will get you on the road to traffic heaven.

    Hi Dilip,

Lately I’ve been giving guest posting some very serious thought. What I want is to get people to visit my blog so that I might be able to get sign ups to my stuff or maybe buy one of may affiliate products or maybe even my own product.

In doing this, even if they are attracted by another writers article or post, they have to come to my site to read it which makes them a possible partner for me.

The more I think about this the better I can make it sound and you did a good job of that in this post.

    Thanks,
    Mike

I think you’re totally right. Not enough bloggers leverage other great bloggers. Having a guest blogger is a fantastic way to get more traffic and bring fresh content to your site. Bravo, great post!

I’ve never done guest posting before, maybe the reason I end up on this post today is not a coincidence.

I think that I should spread myself and contribute my posts to different communities, so people could know me better.

Really great advice, thanks for sharing..:)

I see the benefits of getting traffic in this way because if the guest blogger has a following, that following will want to read what he/she has written elsewhere. Thus, I get some traffic and they get a backlink and potentially increased exposure from my following.

My following is quite meagre at this point, so I hope others will still be attracted to guest posting.

I used to read a lot of posts around guest posting on other successful blogs to get traffic to you blogs. I started to ponder on the possibility of getting an exceptionally well known blogger to write for my post and there by leveraging the traffic that I will get using his Name alone. I tried doing this in one of blogs that was on career. All I did was to write a short bio at the beginning of the post mentioning the name of the blogger. This name acted as a search term and got me a jump of about 271% approximately in the traffic to my blog.
    So inviting guest posts work.

What I like about guest posting is that it’s reviving one of the original reasons for blogging – allowing people to share information they consider useful, interesting, or just entertaining. The fact that inviting guest posts on your blogs and writing guest posts for others results in increased traffic is really not that surprising then – it’s touching one of the core philosophies that helped make blogging the huge phenomenon it is today. Thoughts?
