1st page on Google search

Every blog starts with just 1 post. 1 post will not rank high in Google. Even with the highest SEO possible you still can’t rank 1st page. If it does rank on the 1st page, you must have a very very solid post. Something that may change the world. Normally it will not last long before your rank drop and you start to go page 2 or more.

Rank 1st page on Google is a very important thing. More organic traffics mean you pay less on pay per click. If possible you do not have to pay a cent to Google. Google will still bring you quality traffics.

Here is how I did it. 1st I pick a topic that I have most of the resource. Instead of doing just 1 post, I’ll break it up to multiple posts and publish them between posts. Each post must be complete by its own.

Here is an example of a group of posts that work together to rank higher on Google search. The topic is RemoteJoy Lite. It is a plugin that enable your Playstation Portable (PSP) to be viewable on PC via USB link. Not just that, you also can control your PSP using any game controller from your PC. This way you can make your PSP a game console like PS3, XBox360, or Wii.

Keywords:

Keywords are important. Do keywords research on Google free keyword tool. Here is the link. Find keywords that have more search. Sometime it is good also to do the opposite. It depends on how you want your audience to view it. You also put keywords in your post, not just in SEO. Use keywords in every sentence you write. This is called long tail keyword. Keywords that make you distinct from others. Something from your niche that sales low volume but high value. It can be hard for starter, but after awhile it will become second nature.

Not all keywords work the same. Users normally search multiple keywords. Even mistake keywords also count in the scope. One common example that I see on my post is “light” instead of “lite”. Include these also in the post. Try to use more root words, use “install” instead of “installation”.

Here are some keywords that rank my blog 1st on Google search:

  • How to set up remotejoy lite
  • RemoteJoy 0.19
  • RemoteJoy 0.19 GUIDE
  • Type B driver for remotejoy
  • How to install remotejoy lite
  • Remotejoy light
  • Installation remotejoy lite 0.19 released
  • RemoteJoy lite screenshot
  • RemoteJoy 0.17
  • RemoteJoy guide
  • RemoteJoy problem Driver
  • RemoteJoy installation
  • Remotejoy v0.18

Resource:

Talking about uniqueness, you must have your own resources. Photo must be yours, download must be from your blog. It maybe easy for you to use resources from the web, but for the long run it will hurt you. Therefore making your own resource is a must. Let others link to you. 1 post that have all of my own resources is http://www.playonmove.com/v2-install-remotejoy-lite/.

How to install RemoteJoy Lite post

How to install RemoteJoy Lite post

Photos are mine, download file is mine. Some provide partial of the files to make RemoteJoy Lite works and link to other website for the rest of the file. As user, I see this as tedious. Working in an engineering firm that is one stop total solution help me understand this concept the hard way. If you provide the solution free, user will even help you promote your blog.

Links:

You need to link each of the post to each other. That’s how it works. User may find a post of your blog and may want to find other info about it. Let me show you 1 example. We have 1 potential RemoteJoy user. He did Google search and landed on 1 of your blog post. It is not what he want. He landed on RemoteJoy Lite download but it is an older version. He want a newer 1, he also wants to know how to install it. In that post, I’ll link up how to install RemoteJoy Lite plus link to the newer RemoteJoy version.

Link them up

Link them up

This method have its advantages. 1st the user can find what he wants, 2nd he will have an impression that you always update your blog. The next time a new version of RemoteJoy Lite been released, the 1st place he would find is your blog. This creates loyal viewers to your blog.

Closing:

Let the synergy works. If 1 post did not get ranked other will help pull it. The most important thing for search engine is whether your information is useful or not. If you did you keywords research and SEO well, you can do this every time. Try it, play with it, make sure you have a good tracker to see your traffics are from and along the way have fun!

Ago you have first page on google.
Now I am a seasoned marketer that has
been a webmaster for over 20 years.
Here is what I do not understand.
Anytime Im in the top five of google
I always have a pr of at least a 2 if not
higher, none of your page’s have a rank
above 0 can you explain this.

What I am trying to ask, does google rank blogs differently than regual sites. Doesnt seem fair if you get toplisting your rank does not go up.

2009-03-29 14:35:56

Nick, Google only publicly updates Page Rank every few months. So a page may have a higher PR than what you can see (until the next public update).

I have seen pages with a low (or no) PR outrank sites with PR 4-5 in search results - possibly because they are more relevant to the search. I’ve seen my own pages do this, and I’ve often seen it in searches that I do for various things. I think it’s fairer overall - there are authority sites with high PR that don’t necessarily have the best articles on a niche topic. There are Firefox plugins that show you the PR and backlinks each page has on a Google Search results page, it’s quite interesting if you have the time to install it and take note of the PR compared to actual rank order for some of the searches you do.

Another factor could be the search terms you are going for (that you mention in your previous comment), the search terms in this article are very long tail terms, and they are not very competitive. So if all the competition is quite new and/or low PR then it stands to reason that you can get top rankings without having PR to that page. The situation changes a bit if you are going for ’shorter tail’ keywords that are more competitive. When you talk from your experience - has it been with ’shorter tail’ and more competitive keywords?

The idea is sound but I really don’t see the point of ranking for a keyword that the Google Keyword Tool says there isn’t enough traffic for any of the 100s of direvitives to even track.

What’s the point of ranking #1 for something with not traffic?

The CaymanHost says
2009-03-29 12:14:36

Sorry but I concur with Larry. It’s all very well ranking on the front page of Google but hardly anybody is searching for the terms you have targeted. Even the single keyphrase “remotejoy lite” has barely any search volume and some of your longer tail phrases get no searches whatsoever.

Promoting yourself ,as some kind of SEO expert and using data like this which is, ultimately, not that much proof of anything, is misleading and I posted about it recently on my own blog “Getting On The First Page Of Google - A Reality Check:-

http://www.thecaymanhost.com/blog/item/keywords-and-getting-on-the-first-page-of-google—a-reality-check

Sorry to sound so negative but the facts are the facts.

This is a nice story..:) But I can’t agree with you. I’ve found some helpful tips at http://www.drobon.com/2009/03/webmaster/seo/google-pagerank-and-related-factors.html

I think you are confusing Page Rank with the SERPS (Search Engine Results Pages). Page rank is another story entirely and not what this post is about.

Donna Miller says

Like @Larry and @The CaymanHost I used the Google keyword search tool as well as Wordtracker free keyword tool to see how many searches there were for your keywords. Google said no data available and Wordtracker had none for ‘Remotejoy lite’, and only 1 search for ‘Remote joy lite’. So how much traffic do these pages really bring you?

Although the concept is sound, like you say the keyword research is very important and it doesn’t make sense to use keywords with no search traffic (which seems to be the case here)… unless this is a product that is about to launch in a big way and you manage to keep those rankings after the launch.

Chris Fox says

The keyword tools only provide an estimate of how much traffic a term gets. Now most people forget that nearly 50% of searches on google every day are for “new terms”

I love when people say about how the traffic tool shows hardly any search volume, im not going to go after that term. While everyone else is chasing he big phrase terms with loads of competition Im going after these so called less volume keywords and getting a ton of traffic from them.

Im ranking for some keywords that show poor estimates yet are getting me loads of traffic.

If your judging how much traffic someone gets from an estimate tool then it’s silly.

Whatever peoples obsession is with these so called big terms I have no idea, who cares, the way i see it, i chase the smaller terms with less competition and if i end up ranking for a so called large volume term then great.

In my eyes it all boils down to the traffic that i see my sites are getting.

In relation to this post, i think he offers good advice that if implemented will work

Another thing in addition to the above posts is that if you create an interesting and rather unique post, people will link to it what gives you further advantage and backlinks.

Chris Fox is right on point. These keyword tools only give estimates. They should be used to guide you not as absolutes. The goal is to get “Qualified Traffic”. It doesn’t really matter if it’s a small amount compared to the highly competitive words.

Once you get the traffic (large or small), the key is conversion. Getting your audience to commit to whatever it is you’re asking of them. Who cares if the traffic is small as long as your conversion rate is fantastic.

The CaymanHost says
2009-03-29 18:27:04

@Chris

I don’t disagree with the methodology outlined, it is generally sound advice but I just think if you are out to prove a point, as this post is presumably intended to do, that you should pick an example that stands up to a little more scrutiny.

Neither do I disagree with you that going after very competitive keywords is not always a good idea for the little guys. You make a very valid point that less rather than more competition is always a good thing to look for.

People out there are gagging for information on how to rank on the first page of Google and all I’m suggesting is that this post doesn’t really prove that the author is any kind of authority, due to the choice of keywords used to illustrate and/or reinforce his ideas.

If my first comment sounded harsh, it wasn’t meant to and overall the advice given is good, it just doesn’t make clear all the factors and considerations for first page rankings in the SERPS. (Let’s not forget either, that Google are not the only search engine out there, so applying the methods outlined here should also help you rank better in Yahoo/MSN etc.).

You keywords and competition is soooo niche it would be a travesty if you didnt rank on the 1st page. However your email marketing strategy is impressive and I do enjoy some of the articles. This however is not one of them and not even remotely impressive in my opinion. Sorry!

I have used this technique on high traffic key words.. I have found that I rank high the first couple weeks, and then I will find my site at the back of the pack. Picking long tail key words with less competition can pan out well, if the competition is week in that area.
This strategy is good for quick in and out sniper campaigns.
