Blogging Success Story – $0 to $400/day in Adsense Revenue

My name is Adam Franklin, and my business partner Michael Ullman and I would like to share a true, very motivational story about a very successful blog we created about a year ago.

This blog went from zero to $100/day in 90 days, and now generates up to $400 per day, all through Google Adsense. It was this blog that helped push us to create “Adsense $100k Blueprint

Here’s some more background on that blog:

By late last year, we had condensed the steps that make up the Blueprint. After many ‘trials’, testing, tweaking, etc., we had more-or-less systematized our  process and distilled it into the basic “step 1, step 2…” plan that’s in the book. One of the first efforts to follow the ‘plan’ exactly was that site.

We had become enamored with the vocational training / adult ed / education niche (hint, again: still hundreds of huge, wide-open opportunities there… start with “certificate programs”, “vocational training”, etc). We had been poking around the ‘medical training’ niche using Micro Niche Finder. Some of the terms we had come across that we felt warranted further examination were “nursing school”, “medical assistant”, “medical technician”. Drilling down on “nursing school” we came across some of the terms mentioned in the ebook.

we took one as a ‘seed’ keyword, and found about 5 other related keyword phrases, all of which had decent search volume. Two of them had thousands of searches per month, with very ‘light’ competition.

We then registered the domain name, set up a WordPress and  outsourced 10 articles, 2 each for 5 keyword phrases. 1 was used as the target “Page” URL, and one to add after as a supporting “Post”. We loaded the 5 Pages, plus we wrote the initial homepage Post.

Now it was time to launch the site. It was indexed in about 48 hours. Once it was indexed, each article was submitted to Ezinearticles. We also created a Blogger blog, and Squidoo lens, did the basic Social Bookmarking, and created 1 article set for Unique Article Wizard.

In about 6 weeks we had low Page 1 rankings for 2 of our target keyword phrases. We outsourced another 10 articles or so, and continued to add content & backlinks. We were starting to see about $10-$20/day (this particular site was averaging $.50/click). At about 8 weeks, we had Positon #2 or Position #3 for those two keyword phrases, which gave us about 400 visitors per day total. With roughly 20-25% click-through, we were now at $40-$50/day. Right around the 90 day mark, one of the phrases hit Position #1, more than doubling traffic, and topping $100/day. About a month later we put the site on Flippa, showing a $115/day earnings, and getting $32,500 for the site.

As part of the sale, we agreed to continue on ‘managing’ the site – agreeing to write 2 articles per week, and doing an hour or two of backlinking per week – in return for 25% of the revenue above what it was at sale time. This also let us continue tracking site performance.

At 5 months, there were multiple Position #1 keyword phrases, and many of them had spots #1 & #2 or #2 and #3 indented double-listings. The site hit $300/day right about at 6 months. Two months later, it hit a high of $415/day.

Needless to say, not all of your sites will perform that well – all of ours don’t perform that well either. But it shows what happens when you ‘hit’ on all cylinders: good niche selection yielding high-volume, under-leveraged keyword phrases, a ‘smart’ content & backlinking campaign, ramping up over time but not too fast or hard, and a layout that converts well.

That is the crux of the “Adsense $100k Blueprint” , and while we all get some ‘duds’ even when everything checks out, this plan insures reliably repeatable successes.

I hope you’ve found this post to be motivational.  The reality is that there are an endless number of opportunities on the web, and you can almost guarantee your success with hard work and perseverance..

How I Started Making $5000 Online Monthly

I am Onibalusi Bamidele a 17 year old entrepreneur and blogger from YoungPrePro.com. I started my blog on the 2nd of April 2009 and in approximately 11 months of starting my blog I am already making $5000 online monthly. During this process I learnt a lot of things and one major lesson I learnt is that anybody can start making money online within the shortest period possible as long has he/she has the right plan and information on how to do it. I have decided to write a post that details my step to $5k online monthly and how you also can achieve it.

Before I Start

When most people read the title of this post they will be thinking about the next get rich quick scheme or buying an informational product. While it is easier to write a 32 pages informational product on the subject and sell it to make some quick bucks I believe the same information can be effectively presented in a short post of less than 1,500 words and that what matters most isn’t how long the guide you read is but what you do after reading the guide. I’d like you to know that this isn’t a get rich quick scheme and it took me 8 months of hard work to achieve what I achieved so you should know that before you continue with this guide.

How I Make Money Online

I will also like you to know that there isn’t a single way to make money online. There are numerous ways you can make money online, it can either be by blogging, affiliate marketing, offering your services or doing some other things. One thing you should note is that every one of these techniques requires you to have something really valuable to offer before you can get results.

I make money online by offering my services to others and the tips in this post will be based on that approach. Even though you can still implement what you read in this article into other aspects of making money online it will be more effective if you plan to be offering your services to others.

Below are the steps I took to start making $5k online monthly.

1. I Developed a Skill

While it is easier to be sold by many of these push button scams and get rich quick scams promising to help you make tens of thousands of dollars your first day online I’d like you to know that making money online isn’t that easy. To really succeed online you need to have something to offer to people. In my case it was my writing skills, I write a lot and I love writing, I focused my efforts on writing everyday without even knowing that it will help me make a living at one point in my career.

While you might believe that you know a lot of things it is also very important for you to know that it is better to be a master of one trade than to be a jack of all. Don’t try to know and do 10 things, look for one and make yourself the possible best at it.

You don’t necessarily need to be born with the skill that will help you make money, and it doesn’t have to be what you presently know. Look for one thing you know you’re good at or one thing you’re ready to commit yourself on. Develop yourself on it and others will start seeking your help.

2. I Made Myself an Expert

Being an expert can make a difference in you making money online or not. When I talk about being an expert I’m not saying you need to be a guru with a list of over 100,000 subscribers or a guru making over $50k online monthly. Being an expert is all about you specializing in one skill and making yourself the possible best when it comes to that skill so that you can achieve the best result in it. Being an expert is all about making yourself one of the first person people will think of when they talk about that thing, being an expert is all about making yourself renowned as far as your skill is concerned.

I wrote a lot of guest posts within a short period of time, I learnt a lot about guest blogging and I made sure I got published on some of the biggest blogs in the industry, including here, Problogger, DailyBlogTips, John Chow and even some very big blogs like ReadWriteWeb and Business Insider. This alone brought me a lot of opportunities, people started respecting me when it comes to guest blogging and a lot of new opportunities started coming my way.

It is also important for you to know that being an expert isn’t about you professing it, you have to work hard to achieve that status and people will start calling you an expert. I never called myself a guest blogging expert, people call me that and some people have even gone to the extent of calling me the king of guest blogging – it isn’t because I told them to call me that but because they saw my work and they believed that I know what I am doing. You have to prove to people that you’re truly an expert by giving the best possible when it comes to what you have to offer.

3. I Leveraged Social Proof to Get Results

All the above points are only a part of the game, they made me known and they showed people what I’m capable of but I got no true result until I showed myself, I got no true result until I told people what I am capable of. It all started when I wrote a post on my blog telling people how I wrote 270 guest posts in 8 months, this boosted my credibility, made people to start respecting me, brought a lot of interview offers and eventually landed me a big client. Social proof is really powerful and can help you get a lot of results.

If you’re a blogger selling a course on how to get more blog comments you have to prove to people that you truly get comments to your blog and if you want to teach people how to gain more subscribers you have to have a list of thousands of subscribers to back your claims. If you want to teach people how to make money blogging you have to prove to them that you’re truly a blogger making money online and if you want to teach people how to get traffic to their blogs you need enough traffic to back up your claims.

While it might look very simple I’d like you to know that it really works, ever since making use of social proof to let people know that I’m effective at guest blogging, I’ve gotten more clients than I needed and I’ve rejected a lot of clients – there are so many people in need of your services, you just have to prove to them that you know what you are doing. Here are some ways to leverage social proof in various niches:

  • If you’re a life coach you need to show people how many successful people’s lives you’ve helped make better.
  • If you’re a marketer you have to prove to people that you really know what you’re saying.
  • If you’re a designer you need to have a great portfolio of some of the best works you have done.
  • If you’re a freelancer you have to show people your work in order to prove to them that you’re efficient and effective.

Once you’ve been able to realize that it takes effort to make money online and that specialization can help accelerate your journey to online success you will find it easier to make more money online.

What I’ve learned from launching my 4th blog!

I can hardly believe that I’ve launched four blogs in the past three years.

The first blog I launched in June 2007 is now up for sale with a site broker and if their predictions are correct, I should be able to get a niche pay out due to the fact that I was able to generate consistent income and revenue from my blog for at least 18 months. Thanks to affiliate marketing, I was able to turn a blog that barely made $20/mo in Adsense revenues into a blog that generated $2500-$5000/mo from affiliate marketing. Oh, did I mention that it’s a beauty blog? There are thousands of easier niches … so I’m quite excited about my accomplishments.

When launching my current blog, I made sure to take all the lessons I had learned up to now and apply them in order to create a more successful blog in much less time.

Like so many new bloggers, when you launch your first blog, it’s quite difficult to know where to start and I surely made my share of mistakes along the way.

That said, I’ve made sure to document some of my best findings while launching this latest blog and I must say that the results are quite amazing.

I wanted to help other bloggers who are starting out by sharing what I feel has worked the best for me:

1. Get a great URL: After coming up with super creative names for my other blogs, I decided to use keyword research to find the name of my 4th blog. When you chose a domain name that contains keywords people are actively looking for, it makes life a whole lot easier. I’ve learned that the hard way and made sure to integrate that in the latest blog I launched.

2. Chose a great theme: The first blogs I launched used a custom theme my former webmaster created. A number of experts commented on my blog and said my theme wasn’t the most SEO-friendly one and it was affecting my Google rankings. For the fourth blog, I bypassed all that non-sense and picked the Thesis Theme — which is extremely SEO-friendly.

3. Create a strong brand presence: A strong brand presence is so important when launching your blog. With services like Fiverr (where all outsourced services are a measly $5), it’s honestly so affordable to have a solid brand that really inspires trust among your readers.

4. Install some of the best plugins: There are some key plugins you want to install on your WordPress blog to make life easier for you. The list is long, but essential plugins include Gravatar, All-In-One-SEO, CommentLuv, DoFollow, MaxBannerAds, TestimonialManager to name a few can really make a big difference to your online business.

5. Social media plugins: If you’ve not done so yet, you should really include the Facebook “Like” button if you want your post to get some serious viralbility on one of the most coveted social platforms on the internet. The jury is out on Facebook’s effectiveness at generating real income. Some marketers say they are making a killing while others aren’t able to generate much income, but everyone agrees on the power of having a post go viral via the Facebook “Like” button.

6. Get the MaxBlogPress Ninja Affiliate: Do yourself a favour and get the MaxBlogPress Ninja Affiliate because it really will boost your blog income from the get-go. It’s true that you have to pay to obtain the MaxBlogPress Ninja Affiliate, but it’s well worth the price … and as you increase the number of blog posts you write, the more it will really have an impact on your income potential.

7. Make sure you put your optin-box above the fold: This is as old can be when it comes to the basics of online marketing, but I constantly visit blogs where you find the opt-in box in such a conspicuous way that it’s important to find it … if it’s hard to find … you won’t likely get too many visitors to your blog free signing-up on your database. Properly building your database from day 1 is crucial to your success and make sure you place your opt-in box in a location that jumps out.

8. Make sure your copy is legible: I still cannot believe how many people select dark coloured backgrounds and hard to read font colours. The best combination remains black font against a white background. It might sound boring, but it works.

9. Create a useful “about us” page: After visiting hundreds if not thousands of other blogs, I noticed that the best “about us” pages included more than a few lines of copy. I collected the best of the best to create the type of “about us” page that really provides visitors with an easy way to navigate across the blog.

10. Start using YouTube more aggressively: I’m lucky enough to be part of Brendon Burchard’s Expert Academy training and he’s really made it clear that video marketing is the way of the future. I’ve been doing videos for a while now, but I’ve not been as diligent as I should be. Base on Brendon’s experience, I will be much more committed to producing videos that I can post on my YouTube channel and on my Facebook fan page!

There are a few more things I’ve learned along the way of launching my forth blog, but this list should surely help new bloggers get the most important elements!

From 0 to 10,000 Visitors Monthly – This is What I Did

Getting traffic to a blog is the priority of every blogger because without traffic you can do nothing: without traffic you can’t make sales, without traffic you can’t get subscribers and without traffic you can’t get clients. It doesn’t matter what your online business model is, you need traffic to get results and this post will be explaining how I went from 0 to 10k visitors monthly.

10k visitors

Before You Continue

Before you continue reading I’d like you to know some things about my blog and me. I’m a 17 year old blogger from YoungPrePro.com, and like most of you, I’m just an ordinary blogger who started with nothing so I believe it is easier for most of you to start getting this kind of traffic regularly, because when I started:

  • I had zero traffic
  • I had no connection
  • I had no mailing list
  • I wasn’t recognized
  • I had no budget.

And with the above I have never spent a cent of advertising on trying to get traffic to my blog so I’ll say the traffic I get is organic. The techniques I will be teaching you in this post are so powerful that by using them, even if you don’t promote your blog for months your traffic will always increase.

I Realized This the Hard Way

There is a saying that a jack of all trades is a master of none. I used to hear this saying a lot, even before I knew what was called a blog but after blogging for months I never realized the importance of that saying when it comes to blogging. Like most of you, I spread myself thin trying to utilize so many forms of traffic generation tactics. I posted on forums, I commented on blogs, I submitted all my posts to every social bookmarking site I knew, I submitted my blog to every directory I knew and I was always ready to utilize any new traffic generation tactic I heard of.

Then one day, everything changed. I wrote a guest post for a particular blog in my niche and that guest post doubled my blog traffic the day it was published, I quickly realized that every traffic strategy I have been implementing are ineffective and I focused all my efforts on guest blogging alone. 8 Months later, I have written hundreds of guest posts, I have gotten tons of authority backlinks, I have been featured on many big blogs, and I have gotten tens of thousands of visitors.

Even though I will be recommending the traffic generation tactic that worked for me to you in this post, I’d like you to know that one thing stands true, and that is that being a successful blogger has a lot to do with specialization and expertise and a jack of all trades is always a master of none. Instead of utilizing 10 different ways to get traffic to your blog, why not focus on one? To me, guest blogging was that one traffic generation tactic I needed, I focused all my efforts on it and it worked for me.

Great Content Made a Difference

Even though I know I’m not the best when it comes to this and there are some times when I become really ashamed of my content, one thing I can’t really deny is the role content played in building my blog.

Even though I get over 10,000 visitors to my blog monthly a lot of you might think I get an average of 350 visitors every day; I know that looks almost true and is a great calculation, but the reality is there are days I only get as low as 190 visitors and there are days I get as much as 600 visitors without getting linked to by or having a guest post published on a big blog. The one thing that makes a difference is my content.

People are reading your blog for a reason, they want information! If you know your audience well you will know the kind of information they want and how they respond to it and you will be able to write content that go viral easily.

It doesn’t matter how much traffic you will get or what traffic generation technique you plan on using the one thing that can make it last is your content. You have to prove to your readers that you truly know what you’re saying and that you’re really there to help them. Once you start giving your readers the best you will start seeing an exponential increase in your blog traffic.

When I talk about not promoting my blog, yet, being able to maintain my traffic, what I’m talking about is the effect of quality content. Quality content brings about a spike in my blog traffic while at the same time putting my name in front of other people.

I Built a Brand

Every single month, hundreds of people are coming to my blog from search engines through the keyword “YoungPrePro”, which happens to be the name of my blog. Others are coming to my blog through my name and many others are coming through variations of my blog name. The name of my blog is the most popular keyword people use to find my blog in the search engines, both monthly and in my overall traffic stats (since I started my blog) and there could only be one explanation for this, I have built a brand people want to connect with, I have built a brand people want to identify with and I have built a brand people keep on talking about.

It is when people start talking about blogging and entrepreneurship to people around them that they will mention my blog, and those they tell will also tell others and in that way traffic will increase significantly and the result I get will skyrocket.

Try building a brand for your blog and yourself by investing your time in techniques that help you put your name in front of many eyeballs. Participate in forums, comment on other blogs, write guest posts for other blogs, and attend as many events you know can help spread the word about your online business. There is a great power in a brand and once you could make the name of your business common among your audience you will find it relatively easy to get more traffic to your blog.

I “Mastered” Guest Blogging

This was the one thing that made a whole lot of difference because even if I have the best content online there is no how it can be respected and shared if it is not read. As a new blogger with zero traffic, subscribers, mailing list and authority I had no reader of my own and I needed one. I needed readers to share and interact with my content, I needed readers to praise and appreciate my work and I needed readers to keep on talking about my brand. I immediately knew how important guest blogging is when it comes to building an audience and getting traffic and I was “dead determined” to get the best from it so I started learning everything I can about guest blogging, I started looking for ways to get my guest post published on every blog I know and in no time I have written hundreds of guest posts, some of which were published on some of the biggest blogs online, including ReadWriteWeb, Business Insider, Problogger, Maxblogpress, DailyBlogTips and JohnChow.com.

Before you start telling me that getting my guest posts published on those big blogs was the reason I am getting the traffic I get now I’ll like you to know that it all started from somewhere and nobody knew me when I started.

The takeaway here is that you should replace “I “mastered” guest blogging” with your own “I mastered {traffic strategy}“. If blog commenting is what you know how to do best then focus all your efforts on it till you get results.

And if you’re determined to make use of guest blogging but don’t know where to start, no need to worry, I already have a guide on it and you can download my guest blogging guide to know what you need to succeed as a guest blogger.

How I Got 609 Visits To My Website For 2 Hours Work – And You Can Do The Same

Here’s my story in a nutshell: In late February I offered another blogger a guest post that had taken me 2 hours to write. They published it and 3 days later Google Analytics showed me it had generated 609 new visitors to my site.

But enough about me, in this post I’d like to share with you how you can do this yourself.

Without a doubt guest posting has been the number 1 source of traffic and email signups since I started my blog back in December 2010.

Not only that but writing content that gets published on other people’s blogs is one of the least time consuming traffic strategies that any blogger can use.

How I Generated 609 Visits In 3 Days at GainHigherGround

There are many great articles on the internet which how to write great blog posts, so I don’t propose to cover that in this post. Instead, I am going to focus on the best strategies that I know of to identify and secure guest posting opportunities.

The Bigger Picture

When most of us think of article marketing we think about writing and submitting articles to article directories such as Ezine Articles. If you’ve ever tried this then you’ll know that the benefits are usually mixed: Sometimes, an article “takes off” and receives a lot of views and click throughs to your website or blog and at other times your efforts amount to very little.

One of the problems with this is that article directories get thousands of submissions every day so your chances of success are quite limited even if you write great content which is highly SEO optimized. Moreover, pretty much all of the big article directories allow a wide range of topics to be submitted so the audience is not generally very targeted.

Guest posting on the other hand allows you to publish on highly authoritative sites which are seen by large amounts of people specifically interested in the subject matter that you are writing about.

You also have the option to include pictures and graphics in your post which is rarely the case with article directories. When your post goes live it usually features on the homepage of the site and contains a much superior author bio of yourself (including a picture) with do-follow links back to your site.

In terms of links I strongly recommend that you very carefully follow the guest posting guidelines of the site you are submitting to. Some sites only allow you 1 or 2 links in the author bio which appears at the top or bottom of your post.

However, if the guidelines allow then you may be able to post links to your site in the body of the article. In this case I usually send visitors to a specific page on my site which welcomes them as first time visitors. Overall though, it is important to be ethical and relevant with your links and not abuse your guest post privileges.

Quite simply, submitting one of your articles as a guest post on an authoritative site often involves no more work than submitting it to an article directories.

However, guest posting has massively more potential in terms of targeted traffic generation.

Identifying Guest Post Opportunities

Here are 3 great ways of seeking out guest posting opportunities:

1. Search For Blogs In Google

If you’ve never tried guest posting before then this is what I’d recommend to do first.

Let’s imagine you are blogging about mountain bikes. Go to Google and search for this:

mountain bikes blog “write for us”

This will immediately give you a list of sites which you can approach with your articles. Most of the sites that you will find using this method usually accept guest posts in one of three ways. Either they invite submissions by email, their contact forms or allow you to create a WordPress account on their site and submit your post exactly how you would to your own blog.

Personally, I prefer the last method because not only does this allow you to see how many other guest posts are pending for publication but also gives you more overall control over your article and your author profile.

In any case, using this Google search method is incredibly easy and I personally have had guest posts published within hours of submitting them (which NEVER happens with EZine articles!).

2. Approach Bloggers Directly

There are many blogs which do accept guest posts but do not say so readily on their sites. Often this is because they are highly authoritative and if they publically advertised for guest posts then they would get inundated with requests!

However, don’t let this put you off trying. If you go about this in the correct way you can secure massively lucrative opportunities which can send you heaps of targeted traffic.

It is a great idea to familiarize yourself with the blog which you want to guest post on. Make sure you make some valuable comments on posts for a couple of weeks before you make contact with your guest post offer. Even the most famous and prolific bloggers read their comments so this is an almost sure-fire way of making yourself known as a value-added contributor before you go in the “kill”!

When you do approach the site owner with your guest post opportunity I’d recommend the following:

  • Keep your email short and concise.
  • Make genuine and complementary comments about their work.
  • Provide the actual post you intend to submit (it is a lot harder for them to reject your post if you’ve already done the work).

Remember if your guest post is not accepted then your efforts are not wasted as you can simply pitch it to a different site.

3. MyBlogGuest.com

This is an example of a website which really acts as a broker between guest posters and webmasters who accept guest posts. I have not personally tried this site (or any like it) so I can’t make a personal recommendation. However, I have heard it can produce good results in terms of traffic so it might be something to try after you’ve exhausted previous two strategies that I’ve outlined above.

Finally…

When looking for guest posting opportunities always consider how authoritative the blog is that you’re thinking of submitting to. There is little point in submitting your hard work to blogs which have an Alexa rank of 2.5 million, a Page Rank of zero, no RSS subscribers and have only been running for 2 weeks!

Luckily, all of this information can usually be checked by looking at the homepage of the site (does it show how many RSS subscribers there are?) or using a browser toolbar add-on such as SEOQuake.

Good luck with your guest posting – I think you’ll find it a very fruitful traffic strategy indeed…
